Rio Vista Lodge, in El Fuerte, Sinaloa, Mexico, was founded in the ancient fort, which the Spanish used as a protection in the 1600’s. Currently remodeled with characteristics of an ancient fort and the appearance of a museum rebuilt with quarry arches, stone all over the construction, ceilings with crossed wooden beams and concrete, inspired by a strong decoration of weapons of the period of Mexican Independence and pictures of revolutionaries of that time. Hotel Rio Vista offers the best view of the town of El Fuerte.

El Fuerte (Sinaloa) is considered the “Entrance Door” to Barrancas del Cobre, one of the most beautiful tourist destinations in North America, located in the State of Chihuahua.
We will always remember Chal and the Rio Vista Lodge fondly, the lodge is very unique, the hummingbirds were awesome and the food was outstanding.
Don’t be fooled by the ugly 1 block entrance road. This place is a gem. Hard to eat with so many birds flying by. Your balcony looks into the treetop of a flowering fig with countless birds. El Fuerte was definitely birdier than Alamos, but the 16th Century colonial town of El Fuerte is “only” A cute instead of Alamos, A+. From a panoramic hilltop setting, you view the El Fuerte River, watch dozens of warblers, orioles, Magpie jays, Kiskadees, Social Flycatchers and tanagers in the fig, dodge the attack Violet-crowned and Broad-billed hummingbirds and sip a killer Margarita. Life doesn’t get much better than this. The drinks are even free.
It was hard to leave.
