The accommodations were excellent and the logistics and tour management were very well organized. We have been on the tours and had many excellent guides - Hector is clearly among the very best.

"Canyon Travel is pretty much in a class by itself" --Frommers Mexico 2007

"One of the Most Earth-Friendly Retreats in the World's Most Spectacular Wilds"

"The only lodge with a canyon rim view of the river, one mile below"

Uno Lodge

A Tarahumara Owned Lodge on the Rim of Copper Canyon

Canyon Travel operates trips differently than other operators with our private ecolodges. Most other tour operators do not operate lodges and they offer very little in the operation of their travel services. Our Uno Lodge is reason enough to book our services. Experience wilderness without a mass of tourists and be closer to nature and to the culture. View Military Macaws and Thick-billed Parrots flying overhead and Coatimundi and other wildlife that does not go near other lodges. Visit with Raramuri (Tarahumara) like dropping in on neighbors in contacts that unfold naturally. Independent travelers like our services the best because there are not hoards of tourists or buses at our lodges.

Note: The Uno Lodge and the road to it are currently in need of repair. We hope to have renovations finished by late spring. In the meantime our guests will be placed in other lodging nearby.

The Uno Lodge is accessed by a private 6 mile road and it is perched on the rim of a large promontory that extends into the canyon. It is the only rim lodge with a view of the river at the canyon bottom and it has a continually changing panorama of colors.

Chosen by National Geographic Magazine 50 Top Ecolodges:
“The Most Earth-Friendly Retreats in the World’s Most Spectacular Wilds
Uno Eco Lodge is perched above the Urique River on the rim of
Copper Canyon-deeper than the Grand and a lot less crowded.”

“ Our favorite place was Uno Lodge, on this trip if not in the whole world (in spite of the road!) We were there at the time of the full moon and to see the moon rise over one edge of the canyon as the sun set over the other was unbelievable – one of many unforgettable memories.
Thank you again – it was wonderful.

Our chef prepares delicious meals made from fresh ingredients and they are served on table linens. Appetizers and top-shelf margaritas, wine, cerveza, soft dirnks and bottled water are also included.

“ Actually it was such a profound experience that I have needed time to digest all we saw, did and thought. The Uno Lodge was magical with ever changing views from its windows.”

All comfortable rooms have solar powered lighting, two double beds, fine bed and bath linens inluding terry-cloth robes, bathrooms with hot water and heaters.

“The food at the Uno Lodge was just as good. That is the most amazing place that we have ever been. So it is hard to think about the food there.”

The Uno Lodge offers some of the best hiking on the North American continent. Hikers along the rim have a captive view of the river thousands of feet below and explore caves with archaeological ruins, satellite sites of the Mogollon culture to the North. Treks to a tented base camp at the canyon bottom are outfitted with pack burros and ascend the canyon to the Dos Lodge, another remote lodge. Less active travelers walk to a nearby stream with a waterfall and do sightseeing in our vans enjoying the biological richness of this unique habitat with the world’s most varied species of pines and oak
